The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is pleased to announce that we’re recruiting 40 paid internship positions across a variety of programs for summer 2023. The positions are offered through the State of Wisconsin Student Diversity Internship Program (SWSDIP) which specifically focuses on students of color, students with disabilities, student veterans, women and non-traditional students.
The central goal of the statewide program is to provide students with an opportunity to experience the professional work environment of Wisconsin State Government. Since the inception of the program in 1974 (formerly called the Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program), the program has placed close to 4,000 students in internship positions in more than 30 state agencies and university campuses.
From May to August, interns will receive valuable hands-on experience with their host programs in the DNR, working with mentors and on independent projects to help protect and enhance Wisconsin’s natural resources. At different times during the summer, the intern cohort will come together – in-person and virtually – for engaging events and activities designed to provide networking, career exploration and professional development opportunities.
This year’s internships with the DNR include opportunities in Air Quality, Drinking Water and Groundwater, IT, Natural Resource Education, Parks, Policy, Public Safety, Waste Management, Water Resources, Wildlife and more. The positions being filled in these programs represent a wide variety of career interests and pathways, suitable for students in environmental majors as well as other studies.
The full catalogue of positions for all state agencies, as well as other application instructions and resources, is available on the SWSDIP website: Division of Personnel Management State of Wisconsin Student Diversity Internship Program.
Applications are due Feb. 13, 2023. Visit http://wisc.jobs to apply.
