The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for the Wisconsin Clean Diesel Grant program. Approximately $320,000 is available to fund projects designed to reduce emissions from aging diesel engines.
Many different types of vehicles and equipment are eligible for funding, including school and transit buses, nonroad engines, equipment and vehicles used in construction, cargo handling and agriculture. Eligible recipients include private, nonprofit and public entities that own or operate diesel fleets and equipment in Wisconsin. The Clean Diesel Grant program is administered by the DNR with funding provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
While older diesel engines remain reliable, they pollute more than newer engines. This grant program helps improve the state’s air quality by reducing emissions that contribute to fine particulate, ozone and carbon monoxide levels. These engines are also a source of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, an important greenhouse gas which contributes to climate change. Clean Diesel Grant programs have reduced CO2 emissions in Wisconsin by more than 625,000 tons over the lifetime of these programs.
Details and application materials are located on DNR’s website. Applications are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2022.
