NR 812 Revisions - Printed NR 812 sent by US Mail

To all licensed drillers and pump installers,

Changes to NR 812 – Wisconsin’s well and pump code – have arrived!

Revisions to chapter NR 812, Wisconsin Administrative Code (NR 812) went into effect on July 1, 2020. By now each licensed driller and pump installer should have received a copy of the revised NR 812 in the mail.

You have probably noticed that the revised code and appendix are a total of 66 pages, just over half the size of the previous version. We hope you will find that the revised NR 812 is clearer, better organized, and overall easier to read and understand. Contact your local DNR Private Water Supply Specialist with any questions.

Please note that after printing, we found a publishing error on page number 132 in Table A. The separation distance description for the third line of “POWTS dispersal component” has an incorrect symbol. This symbol for the line containing a separation distance of 250 feet is incorrectly shown as “<” (less than), but the correct symbol should be “≥” (greater than or equal to).

This is how the section of Table A should read:

POWTS dispersal component (also known as Soil Absorption Unit or Mound) < 12,000 gal/day (except for school wells) ²

50

POWTS dispersal component (also known as Soil Absorption Unit or Mound) < 12,000 gal/day (school wells) ²

200

POWTS dispersal component (also known as Soil Absorption Unit or Mound) 12,000 gal/day ²

250

Please make a note of the correct “≥” (greater than or equal to) symbol in your printed copy of the revised NR 812 to avoid any confusion in the future. The online version of NR 812 will be corrected as of August 1, 2020 and continue to be available at: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/code/admin_code/nr/800/812/  You can print out a corrected page once the online version is updated.
