Bald eagle watching is here
Annual Bald Eagle Watching Days in the Sauk City-Prairie du Sac area are set for Jan. 17-18. Activities include bus tours, exhibits, birds of prey show and a planned release of rehabilitated eagles by the Raptor Education Group Inc. The Ferry Bluff Eagle Council sponsors the event and offers spotting scopes at its Wisconsin River overlook, 476 Water St., in Prairie du Sac. Eagles are visible in the area each winter, drawn to the river's undeveloped shoreline for roosting and open water that allows them to find food. Conditions also support winter eagle activity along the Mississippi River, and another event, Bald Eagle Appreciation Days, is Feb. 28-29 in Prairie du Chien. In Wisconsin, 71 of 72 counties now have documented active eagles nests; for more from DNR on eagles, click here.
