Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources - Air Program
May 20, 2019
Have you ever wondered what particle pollution is, where it comes from and what you can do to help reduce it? As part of Clean Air Month, DNR's Air Program launched a new video Committed to Clean Air: Particle Pollution. This is a follow up to last year's Committed to Clean Air in Wisconsin video.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources held its annual poetry contest this May to celebrate Clean Air Month. Third, fourth and fifth grade students across Wisconsin completed an activity from DNR’s Air, Air Everywhere teacher’s activity guide, and wrote poems and riddles on what they learned about Wisconsin’s air.
“We received many excellent entries and appreciate the creativity and hard work of all the students that participated,” said Gail Good, Air Program Director.
The department would like to announce that third grader, Deema Arman, of Madinah Academy of Madison took first place in this year’s competition. Congratulations Deema! Here is the winning poem:
My Cool Friend
Air is my friend.
Now and till the end.
Air is all around.
Up in the sky and near the ground.
We know it’s there though it can’t be seen.
Let’s work together to keep it clean.
Air, Air, I know you’re here.
I can feel you ever so near.
You are the thing that helps me live.
And anything you want I will give.
You lift me up.
You keep me cool.
And that’s why I say you rule.
I know you’re hurt.
When people pollute.
And to those who help you
I give salute.
