More than 230 guided field trips are available through the Natural Resources Foundation — from paddling to hiking to bird-banding and more. Registration is open and trips fill fast. Check the NRF website at WisConservation.org for details.

Spring hearings
and WCC meetings

April 8 is the date for this year’s Fish and Wildlife Spring Hearings and Wisconsin Conservation Congress County Meetings. They will be held at 7 p.m. in each county around the state. Those interested in natural resources management issues can provide input on a variety of proposed rule changes and advisory questions. An online option allows for feedback from those not attending a meeting in person. PDF downloads of meeting locations and the 2019 Spring Hearing questionnaire are available. An online input form will be posted at 7 p.m. on April 8 and remain open until 7 p.m. on April 11. MacKenzie Center all set
for annual Maple Syrup Fest

The MacKenzie Environmental Center in Poynette is ready for the annual Maple Syrup Festival, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 6, sponsored by the center’s Friends group. The event is free and open to the public, with events including syrup-making demonstrations, interpretive displays, wagon rides, live music and more. A pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Main Lodge is $8 for adults and $5 for ages 3-11. For information on the DNR-owned environmental education center, check dnr.wi.gov, keyword “MacKenzie.”

Celebrate with mothers and Mother Nature

Join Wisconsin State Parks for a day of adventure, learning and celebrating women in the outdoors at OutWiGo Girls, a special event set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11 in the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit. With wildflower hikes, bike rides, nature crafts and more, the event is fun for OutWiGo Girls of all ages. Bring friends and family or fly solo as we celebrate Mother's Day weekend with Mother Nature. The event is free and open to the public; a state parks vehicle admission sticker is required. Meet at Scuppernong Trail System parking lot off of Highway ZZ (58 W35820 County Road ZZ in Dousman). News from the bat beat

The latest issue of the Echolocator, the annual newsletter of the DNR’s Wisconsin Bat Program is available online. Find in PDF format here. The report has updates on white-nose syndrome, the acoustic bat monitoring project, bat habitat research and conservation efforts, education and outreach, roost counts and more.
