Introducing a New Workshop on Past Noncompliance

As part of our ongoing commitment to Teach, Learn, and Collaborate, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), in partnership with the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh Center for Community Development, Engagement & Training (UWO CCDET), is pleased to introduce a new workshop through the Wisconsin Caregiver Training Project focused on Past Noncompliance (PNC).

Mastering Past Noncompliance: Turning Deficiencies into Demonstrated Compliance
This new 4-hour workshop is designed for nursing home administrators, directors of nursing, compliance staff, and others responsible for survey readiness and regulatory compliance.

Participants will gain a practical understanding of how PNC is applied during the survey process and how to effectively demonstrate that identified deficiencies have been fully corrected and sustained over time. The session will cover:

  • CMS criteria for PNC and how it differs from current or ongoing noncompliance.
  • Identifying deficient practices, determining scope of impact, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitoring strategies to achieve and sustain substantial compliance.
  • Documentation that demonstrates the issue occurred, that it was corrected, and did not recur.
  • Applying PNC findings to strengthen Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and compliance efforts and potentially reduce regulatory penalties.
