Data Management Modernization Update: Vendor Selected for the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) and Wisconsin Blood Lead Registry (WBLR) Replacement
Overview
The Wisconsin Immunization Program is thrilled to announce a significant step forward in modernizing our approach to immunization data management. As many of you know, the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) has been a cornerstone of immunization tracking and reporting for over 20 years. After a thorough evaluation, it was determined that a new system is the best path forward.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has selected Strategic Solutions Group (SSG) to support the modernization of WIR and WBLR.
This modernization effort will strengthen system performance, improve data quality, enhance security, support future public health needs and provides an opportunity to streamline both immunization and blood lead workflows.
Why SSG was selected

Wisconsin specific configurability: ability to implement Wisconsin-specific immunization schedules on top of existing standards
- Flexible system design: user friendly system design with customizable workflows, rules, and dashboards
- Superior data quality tools: advanced patient-matching algorithms and adaptable deduplication functionality
- Existing lead module: a streamlined lead reporting module already embedded within the platform, reducing customization needed for WBLR

- There are no immediate changes to your current reporting or system access.
- Expect regular communication updates about this project.
- Stakeholder engagement will occur during key phases of the implementation.
- Training and transition information will be shared well in advance.
Project timeline at a glance
Below is a high-level project plan:

Project kickoff and initial build: February 2026 through summer 2026
- DHS staff will be working with the vendor to set up and configure the initial version of the system.

System testing: summer 2026
- Partners will be invited to test the new system. This will be an opportunity for you to get an early preview.

Data exchange configuration: October 2026 through February 2027
- DHS will provide configuration information for transmitting data to and from the new system.

Training: January through mid-March 2027
- Instructor-led training sessions and self-led training modules will be available to prepare users for the new system.

Launch: Anticipated spring 2027
- All providers will transition from the current system to the new system.
Following go-live, system enhancements and continuous improvements will occur based on feedback and evolving needs.
