2026–2027 Flu Vaccine Mass Vaccination Exercises Prebook for Local and Tribal Health Departments
This message is being sent to Tribal health directors, local health officers, local health department staff, local health department nurses, and key DHS staff.
The Wisconsin Immunization Program and the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Health Care (OPEHC) are partnering again to allow health departments and Tribal health offices the opportunity to conduct mass vaccination exercises for pediatric patients using state-supplied influenza vaccine. Influenza vaccine will be the only vaccine available for mass vaccination exercises. Please note the timeline below, ordering must be completed by January 30, 2026.
Local health departments and Tribes (LTHDs) that wish to conduct mass vaccination exercises (in accordance with the guidelines for such exercises from OPEHC) should determine the amount and type of vaccine you wish to prebook for these efforts. Reach out to schools in your jurisdiction to determine interest in having influenza clinic(s) in the fall or winter of the 2026–2027 school year. Please keep in mind that influenza clinics should not be scheduled in September or early October because vaccine is not always available at that time.
The information below contains instructions for mass vaccination exercise ordering only. If you also want to order vaccine for VFC eligible clients, those doses must be ordered separately. Please refer to the GovD message you should have received today, titled "2026-2027 VFC Flu Vaccine Prebook." The instructions have been separated this year for clarity.
Unlike vaccine available through the VFC program, the availability of vaccine for this mass vaccination program is part of the federal Section 317 budget that Wisconsin receives (which also funds the VFA program) and therefore, has a limited budget.
We anticipate that amounts of vaccine approved for these activities will be similar to what was ordered last year and may need to be adjusted or reduced, depending on the number of LTHDs participating this year.
Ordering Timeline
The window for LTHDs to prebook Mass Vaccination Exercise influenza vaccine for the 2026–2027 influenza season will open January 21, 2026, and will close at the end of the day on Friday, January 30, 2026. Orders not received by the end of the business day on January 30, 2026, may not be accepted.
