2026–2027 VFC Flu Vaccine Prebook

This message is being sent to Vaccines for Children (VFC) providers, local health officers, Tribal health directors, and Immunization Program staff.

The window for prebooking VFC influenza vaccine for the 2026–2027 influenza season will open Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and will close at the end of the day on Friday, January 30, 2026. Orders not received by the end of the business day on January 30, 2026, may not be accepted.

These instructions are only for ordering the routine flu vaccine administered to VFC eligible children. To order flu vaccine for mass vaccination exercises, see the separate Govd message titled “2026–2027 Flu Vaccine Mass Vaccination Exercises Prebook for Local and Tribal Health Departments”.

You must enter two separate orders in WIR, one for school-based clinics, and one for VFC clients in order to get the correct vaccine for each of these groups. The instructions have been separated this year for clarity.

Ordering instructions for VFC Providers:

You must place your order in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).

  • Sign into WIR.
  • Select your organization.
  • Click on "r/r" at the top left of the screen.
  • Under the VFC Renewal and Registration Forms section, select “Begin Influenza Prebooking Request.”
  • Choose the correct site from the dropdown and click “Select.”
  • Please keep in mind while making your selections, that you are ordering doses, not number of boxes.

Determining amount of vaccine to order

When preparing to submit your prebook order, you should order enough vaccine to cover your cohort of children that are eligible to receive VFC vaccine. Before placing your order, we strongly urge you to review your practice's influenza rates and challenge your practice to increase the number of individuals vaccinated by at least 5%.

To reach these goals, it will be important for you to review how and when you communicate with your patients regarding influenza vaccine, vaccine availability throughout the flu season, and the importance and benefits of being vaccinated, particularly for high-risk patients.

If you are not responsible for ordering state-supplied vaccines for your clinic, please share this information with the appropriate staff.

How to run a report in WIR to find the number of vaccinations administered last flu season.

You must be an IR Administrator in WIR to run an ‘ad hoc count report’. The report can be found in the Reports section of the blue menu bar on the left side of the screen. Set up the factors and filters as demonstrated below. Note that when asked if counting clients or immunizations at the top of the page, immunizations must be selected. Use today’s date for the second date of the “between” statement.
