U.S. Bank Scam Alert

As part of the Division’s commitment to Teach, Learn and Collaborate, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ (DHS) Division of Quality Assurance (DQA) is sharing that we are aware of a highly organized impersonation scam that targets U.S. Bank customers. Threat actors are contacting customers by phone, posing as representatives from the U.S. Bank Fraud Department, and claiming issues with recently initiated wire transfers.

The DHS DQA Provider Portal uses U.S. Bank for the payment of fees. Please be aware of this impersonation scam if you are paying fees through the DHS DQA Provider Portal.

Reminders

  • U.S. Bank will never send links via mobile device or request downloading applications during a call.
  • Customers should only access SinglePoint through a bookmarked link: https://singlepoint.usbank.com/.
  • Customers should never rely on the phone number as proof that it is a legitimate U.S. Bank call.
  • When in doubt, customers should hang up and call Commercial Customer Service (CCS: 800-706-4727), to verify it is a legitimate U.S. Bank call.

Key details - how they try to scam

  • Attackers are very skilled at sounding like U.S. Bank personnel and knowledgeable regarding SinglePoint and other U.S. Bank processes.
  • The attackers can make the call look like it is coming from a legitimate U.S. Bank phone number.
  • Attackers instruct customers to access a fictitious, also known as spoofed, SinglePoint website or a fraudulent “verification tool.”
  • In some cases, customers are asked to download a remote access application to enable co-browsing.
  • All spoofed sites are branded with the U.S. Bank name and logo.
  • Once connected, attackers harvest sensitive credentials—including User IDs, passwords, token values, and wire PINs—to initiate multiple high-value wire and ACH transactions.
