Updates to WIR and Vaccine Schedules

This message is being sent to Wisconsin vaccinators, VFC providers, VFA providers, local health officers, Tribal health directors, local health department nurses, local health department staff, and select DHS employees.

A number of additions and schedule changes have been made to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).

The following new vaccines were recently added to WIR:

  • Penmenvy (MenACWY + MenB)
  • FluMist–self administered
  • Vimkunya (chikungunya)
  • Clesrovimab (RSV mAb)

The following vaccine schedules have been updated:

Vaccine Schedule Update Description Date Implemented
RSV–adult Minimum age decreased to 50 for high-risk adults August 15, 2025
Penmenvy Added to Meningococcal and Meningococcal B (Bexsero) schedules August 19, 2025
FluMist–self administered Added to Influenza schedule August 19, 2025
HPV Recommended age updated to 9 years September 8, 2025

As noted in the table above, the recommended age for initiating the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination series has been changed from 11 to 9 years of age in the WIR.

This schedule change remains within the age range approved by ACIP in 2016 and aligns with the 2025 schedule from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). This change will increase the number of children completing the series on time. For more information, see the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

See the American Cancer Society round table flyer Why Age 9, for more information.
