2025 Federal Poverty Level Announced

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced the 2025 federal poverty level (FPL). The FPL is reviewed every year to reflect changes in the costs of things like rent, utilities, and food. When the FPL is increased it means that more income is needed to buy the same things compared to the year before. The 2025 FPL increased from 2024.

The FPL is used to establish income limits for BadgerCare Plus and some Medicaid programs. The FPL increase means there will be higher income limits when determining eligibility for these programs in 2025. The new FPL will be used for new BadgerCare Plus and Medicaid members and applicants starting February 1, 2025. For current members, the new FPL will be used starting March 1, 2025.

The 2025 FPL update does not affect FoodShare income limits, which change every fall.
