Urgent Update from the Department of Health Services: Multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to cucumbers
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), along with the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP), local health departments, and federal partners, is working to investigate a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to cucumbers. Wisconsin has at least three laboratory-confirmed case(s) linked to this outbreak.
Advice to long term care and health care facilities:
DHS urges facilities to take the following steps:

Do not serve or sell any cucumbers until more specific product recall information is available

Wash and sanitize items and surfaces that may have come in contact with cucumbers.

Monitor for symptoms of severe Salmonella infection:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Bloody diarrhea
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration, such as:
- Not peeing much
- Dry mouth and throat
- Feeling dizzy when standing up
This investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
