Some FoodShare Members Can Renew Their Benefits Every Three Years
Most FoodShare members must renew every year to keep getting benefits. They must also submit six-month report forms. Starting November 1, 2024, some households will only have to renew every three years. This impacts roughly 120,000 households, or about one-third of FoodShare members.
To qualify, all adults in their household must be age 60 or older, blind, or have a disability. They also can’t be earning money from a job or self-employment. The household can include children, but no one can be a migrant worker.
If a member meets these program rules:
- At their next renewal, they will start the full three-year period. We have adjusted the renewal date for eligible members, so their next renewal date will be between 2-24 months from now, to spread the transition out.
- They’ll get a letter with information about their new renewal date. They can also check that date in ACCESS or MyACCESS.
- They do not have to complete six-month report forms.
The first batch of about 40,000 letters was mailed October 21. The next 40,000 were mailed October 28, and the remainder are scheduled to go out November 4.
If a member’s household situation changes, we’ll send them a letter to describe any impact on their renewal date and other requirements for keeping their benefits.
