OPPA: Upcoming Public Health 101 Session
This bulletin is being sent to local health officers, Tribal health directors, local public health staff and nurses, and key DPH staff.
Public Health 101 training for governmental public health staff
An in-person Public Health 101 training will be offered in November. The training is designed to orient new public health staff to the public health system in Wisconsin. Public Health 101 is a one-time training session, and staff are not expected to attend more than one session.
The training will be offered in Madison on Wednesday, November 6 from 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Public Health 101 is free of charge, but individual agencies are responsible for any staff transportation, lodging, and meal costs that may be incurred for staff to attend.
What are the benefits of attending Public Health 101?
Public Health 101 is a training for Wisconsin governmental public health staff at the state, local, and Tribal levels. New public health staff are strongly encouraged to attend. Attendees will learn about the public health system in Wisconsin. Public Health 101 covers the following topics:
- Introduction to working in public health
- Public health system in Wisconsin
- Health equity
- Performance excellence
- Self-care and workplace well-being

- Under the sessions tab on the course screen, select the blue box that says “+ Register.”
Upcoming Public Health 101 sessions
There will be four Public Health 101 sessions in 2025—two virtual and two in-person. Additional information will be sent closer to the training dates.
