OPPA: Upcoming PH WINS 2024 Administration Update

This message is being sent to local public health officers and key DPH staff.

PH WINS 2024 upcoming release in September

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Public Health (DPH) is inviting all local governmental public health staff to join us in participating in the Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS) 2024. PH WINS is a survey conducted by the de Beaumont Foundation, in partnership with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). PH WINS is being sent to staff working in state and local governmental public health agencies, allowing staff to share their thoughts and opinions about their background, job, and workplace. The survey will be released in September.

DPH encourages local public health departments to participate in the 2024 PH WINS. This survey will help to inform national workforce development investments and efforts. In addition to contributing to national data and decisions, de Beaumont Foundation may be able to provide a customized agency-specific report that includes regional and national comparisons for benchmarking with peers across the country. Whether or not your agency will receive such a report is up to the de Beaumont Foundation and is based on their data privacy and suppression rules. If you have questions about data sharing and reporting for PH WINS, we encourage you to reach out to directly to the de Beaumont Foundation.

How is PH WINS related to the 2023 Workforce Assessment that was administered by DPH?

DPH intends to continue administering the Workforce Assessment every two years. As of right now, we intend to launch the next iteration of the Workforce Assessment between summer and fall of 2025. The timing is intentional to encourage participation in both the Workforce Assessment and PH WINS.

Where should I go if I have questions?

If you have questions about PH WINS or the potential data your agency could receive following participation in PH WINS, please contact ASTHO (workforce@astho.org).

If you have any questions about the Workforce Assessment or how it can complement PH WINS, please contact Christie Reese (christie.reese@dhs.wisconsin.gov), public health workforce strategist in the Office of Policy and Practice Alignment (OPPA).
