Heat Awareness
As we approach the summer, the matter of excessive heat arises. Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the United States. According to NOAA National Weather Service, heat causes more fatalities per year than floods, lightning, tornadoes, and hurricanes combined.
People 65 or older are more prone to heat-related health problems. This can be true because they may not adjust as well to changes in temperature or because they may have health conditions or may be taking medications that make them more vulnerable to the effects of hot weather.
Below you will find information that brings to your attention the significance of taking precautions and reminding people of the dangers associated with extreme heat.
For more information on heat-related health concerns, contact your Local Public Health Department.
