This message is being sent to local public health officers, local public health department staff, local public health department nurses, and Tribal health directors.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has updated the Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Diseases Chart.
The complete wall chart is a color-coded, quick disease reference for those responsible for the care of children and teens in group settings. The wall chart has been divided into six categories of the most common communicable diseases affecting children:
- Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat
- Respiratory
- Gastrointestinal
- Skin and Rash
- Meningitis
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases
The category charts include how the diseases are spread, incubation period (time of exposure to symptoms), signs and symptoms, time period when person is contagious, and criteria for exclusion from school or group. More information on the wall chart and the categories can be found on the Childhood Communicable Diseases webpage.

The updated chart is available to view online and hard copies can be ordered at no cost on the Childhood Communicable Diseases webpage. The printed wall chart is 26" X 38". To order printed copies of the wall chart:
