Small Talks is a statewide campaign that encourages adults – especially parents and caregivers – to have frequent conversations about the dangers of underage drinking with the kids in their lives starting at age 8.
Alcohol Awareness Month
Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed April as Alcohol Awareness Month in Wisconsin. View the proclamation.
This month is a time for education on the issues related to alcohol and steps people can take to protect and promote individual and community health and safety.
The Small Talks: Partner Resources webpage has handouts/flyers, posters, social media posts, and videos you can use this month to promote the importance of small talks.
New resources focused on changing adult drinking behaviors Wisconsin’s drinking culture makes it challenging for parents and caregivers who drink any amount of alcohol to have small talks with their kids.
An infographic, social media posts, and videos have been added to the Small Talks: Partner Resources webpage to help overcome this challenge. These new materials include tips on how parents and caregivers can make small changes day-to-day to make big impacts on their kids' choices about alcohol.
Use these resources as part of your Alcohol Awareness Month efforts.
Social media posts focused on alcohol-related harms and impacts The Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project has created a series of social media posts on the harms and impacts of alcohol use as well as actions that can prevent and reduce these harms.
Use these social media posts as part of your Alcohol Awareness Month efforts.
Baseball and softball leagues
The baseball or softball field is the perfect place to promote small talks. Our "Strike Up a Small Talk" toolkit gives you what you need to remind all adults that any moment can be a great time to talk to kids about the dangers of underage drinking.
The "Strike Up a Small Talk" toolkit includes:
- Artwork for banners that can be printed and displayed on fences, bleachers, and by concession stands.
- Copy for announcements that can be read before and after games and in between innings.
- Images and videos for social media that can be shared on team and league social media pages.
- Flyers that can be printed and shared at concession stands and other locations.
Send an email to DHSDCTSSmallTalks@dhs.wisconsin.gov to request a copy of this toolkit.
