New Resource for Assisted Living Facilities: Recommendations for Prevention and Control of Targeted Multidrug-Resistant Organisms
This message is being sent to local and Tribal health department staff, public health nurses, Tribal health directors, local health officers, infection preventionists, and the Wisconsin NHSN Users: Long-Term Care Facilities, DQA: Assisted Living Forum, and DQA Notifications and Updates lists.
The Wisconsin Healthcare-Associated Infections Prevention Program developed Recommendations for Prevention and Control of Targeted Multidrug-Resistant Organisms For Assisted Living Facilities, P-03250a (PDF) to aid Wisconsin assisted living facilities (ALFs) in the prevention and control of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).
The recommendations included in this new resource are intended to:
- Support an ALF’s response to the identification of targeted MDROs within the facility.
- Prevent the spread of the targeted MDRO within the facility.
- Help contain outbreaks.
ALFs are encouraged to tailor the recommendations and other information in this guide based on their facility’s individual factors such as the physical layout, services provided, staffing resources and roles, and the needs and strengths of individual residents.
