The Periscope Project

The Maternal and Child Health Unit at the Department of Health Services is highlighting The Periscope Project and how it can help your patients and community.

The Periscope Project is a perinatal psychiatric access program for health care providers caring for pregnant and postpartum women in Wisconsin who are struggling with mental health or substance use disorders.

The Periscope Project builds capacity in front line health care providers to effectively identify and manage mental health conditions in pregnant and postpartum patients through three core services:

  • Provider to Perinatal Psychiatrist consultation within 30 minutes Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Community-based resources that support perinatal mental health
  • Education and training for providers and staff on evidence-based treatment of perinatal psychiatric conditions

Recently, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) released new clinical practice guidelines related to mental health conditions during pregnancy and postpartum. The Periscope Project is also here to assist clinicians with addressing these clinical practice guidelines.

Note that all services are offered at no cost. The program does not provide direct patient care. Patients stay within their health system and participation is confidential.
