FDA and CDC discussing fall vaccine composition
On June 15, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) met to go over drug manufacturer data, as well as discuss and vote on the strain selection for the updated COVID-19 vaccine composition for this fall. VRBAC voted 21-0 to recommend updating the vaccine composition to a monovalent XBB-lineage. This updated vaccine would become the 2023-24 formula of COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is meeting regarding COVID-19 vaccines this afternoon (June 23). The ACIP will not be taking a vote, but they will be discussing vaccine effectiveness and the vaccine composition for this fall.
Updated Standing Orders for Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines
The updated standing orders for the administration of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 bivalent vaccines have been posted on the CDC website.

Reminder: Ancillary Kit Expiration
Beginning in mid-July, some ancillary kits that are distributed with COVID-19 vaccine will have an expiration date on the exterior of the package that has passed. However, the expiration date printed on the exterior box of the ancillary kit does not apply to all the items contained in the kit.
Please do not discard the entire kit based on the date printed on the exterior label. The date on the exterior box of the ancillary kit reflects the expiry date for the surgical masks and the face shields. The expiration date for other supplies (needles, syringes, alcohol prep pads, etc.) are printed on the individual packaging on these products.
Please check the expiration dates of each individually packaged product in the ancillary kit to determine whether it may be used. Never use expired equipment. Any expired products should be disposed of.
