Moderna Shelf-Life Extensions

Several lots of bivalent Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have received shelf-life extensions. Moderna has verified the new expiry dates listed in the table below and updated the Moderna Vial Expiration Checker. Given these extensions of Moderna expiry dates, please update these specific lots in WIR. Instructions on how to do so are listed below. 

The first five lots in the list are currently in the field. In the table, VMI stands for Vaccine Manufacturer Inventory.

Steps for updating expiration date in WIR 

Manage Inventory → Show Inventory  Click the vaccine name of the specific lot to be updated

  1. Navigate to Moderna Vial Expiration Checker to verify correct expiration date by entering the lot number shown in WIR.
  2. Enter the new expiration date and click save when completed.

Novavax Vaccine Post Puncture Use Time Extended 

Effective May 26, 2023, the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine in use extension was amended for in use post puncture from the original 6 hours to 12 hours after first puncture. For more details, visit the Novavax website to view the updated EUA fact sheet for healthcare providers.


FDA VRBPAC Meeting June 15 about Updated Vaccines for 2023-2024 

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) has scheduled a meeting for June 15 to discuss and make recommendations on the selection of strain(s) to be included in the periodic updated COVID–19 vaccines for the 2023–2024 vaccination campaign.

Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Program Monthly Webinars 

The Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Program webinars are held on the second Tuesday of every month from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The next webinar will be held on June 13. The webinars are used to discuss COVID-19 vaccines, vaccination, and vaccine commercialization.
