Nursing Home Visitation – COVID-19 (Revised)
Memorandum Summary
On April 10, 2023, the President signed legislation that ended the COVID-19 national emergency. On May 11, 2023, the COVID-19 public health emergency is expected to expire. While the Public Health Emergency (PHE) will end, CMS still expects facilities to adhere to infection prevention and control recommendations in accordance with accepted national standards.
CMS issued QSO-20-39-NH Revised 5/8/23, providing updated guidance to nursing home providers to align with the ending of the PHE. The memorandum provides additional information regarding the Core Principles of COVID-19 Infection Prevention and Control, Indoor Visitation during an Outbreak Investigation, and Visitor Testing and Vaccination. Attached to the memorandum is an updated list of Nursing Home Visitation - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
