What is ODHH Community Connect?
ODHH is hosting a series of informal meetings to share information, answer questions, and connect with our Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Each meeting will have a general theme, and we encourage you to bring your questions and comments to share.
When is the next ODHH Community Connect meeting?
Our next meeting will be April 6, 2023.
What is the topic for the next meeting?
12:30–1:30 p.m.: Open forum
This will be an open forum where the attendees can ask any burning questions or seek information from ODHH team.
6:00–7:00 p.m.: Deaf history and education
Sunny Brysch will be presenting on deaf history with emphasis on education framework.
Sunny Brysch obtained her master’s degree in social work from Augsburg College, with a specialization in clinical mental health focusing on families and children therapy and later went on to continue her education in ASL instruction. She taught ASL at both the high school and college levels before becoming the director of the ASL Studies Program at UW Milwaukee. Sunny also has a special interest in Deaf education. She served on the American Sign Language Teacher Association (ASLTA) Diversity Equality Inclusion committee, DPI Advisory Council on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs (as a parent), University of Northern Colorado-Improving Rural Interpreter Skills (IRIS) Project 2023 Council of Experts, Language & Equity Programming, and the Mosaic Leadership Cohort at UW Milwaukee.
Through these collaborations, Sunny has developed a passion for an element of Deaf education that is often overlooked—multiculturalism. By looking at Deaf education through an equity lens, educators, interpreters, and families alike can begin a dialogue that will initiate change.
Are the meetings accessible?
Yes, the meetings are accessible. We will have interpreters and live captioning for all of our meetings.
