Introduction to Criteria Highlights

These highlights are intended to provide clarification to frequently asked questions or recently cited deficiencies. These criteria highlights are applicable to Wisconsin Department of Health Services classified level III and level IV trauma care facilities. For suggested future editions, please email DHS Trauma Team at DHSTrauma@dhs.wisconsin.gov.

Criteria 11(nm)

Applicable to level III and IV facilities, type 2 deficiency

Criteria: For trauma care facilities (TCF) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) capabilities, the MRI technologist may respond from outside the hospital. The trauma performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program must document and review arrival of the MRI technologist within one hour of being called.

Education and clarification:

MRI capabilities are not required for level III and IV TCFs. A facility who uses their MRI for trauma patients, should adhere to the criteria and answer the respective pre-review questionnaire (PRQ) questions. Facilities who have an MRI machine but do not use it for the acute care of trauma patients, can select no on their PRQ.
