Free Training Series for Individuals Responsible for Infection Prevention and Control in Wisconsin Nursing Homes
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, in collaboration with stakeholders from the University of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Healthcare-Associated Infections in Long-Term Care Coalition, and Superior Health Quality Alliance, has released a free training series for infection preventionists and others responsible for infection prevention and control in Wisconsin nursing homes.
Training the Next Generation of Wisconsin Nursing Home Infection Preventionists is a supplementary training opportunity to the training courses provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Nursing Home Infection Preventionist training courses. This new training series seeks to promote a deeper understanding of infection prevention and control principles in the nursing home setting. The training series consists of virtual, interactive exercises where learners are given the opportunity to apply concepts to real-world situations.
The series offers 15 on-demand courses that learners can take at their own pace. Examples of course topics include:
- Infection Prevention and Control Programs
- Standard and Transmission-Based Precautions
- Management Issues with Resistant Organisms
- Outbreak Identification and Management
Learners will earn continuing education credits for completing each of the topic courses, and a certificate of completion for the entire training series. While completing this training series does meet the CMS requirements for having a facility infection preventionist who has completed specialized training in infection prevention and control, it is still encouraged that the CDC and CMS training courses are completed first.
