P-EBT Update – October 26, 2022
The P-EBT update provides information on Wisconsin's Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) programs: School P-EBT, Pre-6 P-EBT, and Summer P-EBT. The federal government created P-EBT to provide food benefits to support families with children in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) administers the P-EBT Programs in coordination with the Department of Public Instruction and the Department of Children and Families.
More than $13.8 million in Summer P-EBT benefits issued to more than 27,000 families
On October 22, DHS provided a second round of 2022 Summer P-EBT benefits totaling more than $13.8 million to families of more than 35,500 children. Families received one-time payments of $391 for each eligible child. Benefits were made available to families with an existing QUEST or P-EBT card.
This second issuance of Summer P-EBT provided benefits to families of children who were not known to be eligible when benefits first went out in August.
Since March 2022, DHS has issued almost $231 million to Wisconsin children as part of the School P-EBT, Pre-6 P-EBT, and Summer P-EBT programs.
School P-EBT announced for 2022-2023
DHS recently received information from the federal government that explains how the School P-EBT program will work in the 2022-2023 school year. In partnership with the Department of Public Instruction and the Department of Children and Families, we are preparing a plan to submit for federal approval.
The program will keep using P-EBT cards previously sent out, so members should keep their card. (If the card has been thrown away, don’t worry. Request a new card by calling P-EBT Support.)
Reminder - Families who may be eligible for free or reduced price school meals through their children’s schools are encouraged to apply now for the 2022-2023 school year.
A child must be officially enrolled in the free or reduced price meal program at their school or attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school to be able to get P-EBT benefits.
Contact the school for an application (sometimes called an “F and R application”) and apply!
