Acute Hospital Care at Home
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed added stressors on our hospitals. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created the Acute Hospital Care at Home program as part of a comprehensive effort to increase hospital capacity, maximize resources, and combat COVID-19 to keep Americans safe. On March 23, 2022, Governor Evers signed Assembly Bill 679, now 2021 Wisconsin Act 208, that continues this innovative program, creating additional flexibility that allows for certain health care services to be provided outside the traditional hospital setting and within a patient’s home. Wisconsin hospitals may now provide hospital-associated services to patients in their home if CMS has approved their request to do so.
To provide hospital services to patients in their homes, hospitals are asked to submit the following information to Thomas Rylander, Licensing & Certification Specialist for Hospitals, HHAs and ASCs at Thomas.Rylander@wi.gov.
- A copy of the waiver request the hospital submitted to CMS to provide hospital care in a patient’s home.
- A copy of the waiver issued by CMS allowing the hospital to provide hospital care in a patient’s home.
- The number of hospital beds the hospital is allotting to hospital care at home.
The Department of Health Services appreciates the partnership we have with Wisconsin’s hospitals as we work together to implement solutions to provide needed services to all Wisconsinites during this global pandemic.
