BEI Performance Test Prep Workshops
Register for upcoming workshops on April 23 and April 24.
The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) is hosting two workshops to help participants prepare for Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) performance tests. For many people, taking a certification test can be a scary and intimidating experience. These workshops will help individuals feel more prepared to take the BEI performance tests by reviewing the format, sections, expectations, and potential topic areas of these tests. To wrap up the day, workshop participants will take a mock version of the test and receive an overview of the BEI rating system.
Continuing education units (CEUs) are pending approval, but will be provided for those who need them.

Trainer:
Lauri Metcalf retired as the chair of the American Sign Language, Interpreting, World Languages, ESL and International Studies Department at San Antonio College in September of 2018. Lauri established the ASL and Interpreting program at there in 1994. Under her leadership, the program has received much recognition, including the State of Texas Workforce Education Exemplary Program, Collegiate Commission on Interpreter Education Accreditation, and Sorenson Communication Award for Excellence in Interpreter Education. Before coming to San Antonio, she was a teacher for the Deaf for 20 years and taught Interpreting and Deaf Education courses at the post-secondary level. Lauri was a member of the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters from 1995 to 2007, and served as chairperson for 11 years. Since 2009, Lauri has worked as a consultant with the National Center on Interpretation at the University of Arizona and the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters in the test development and the certification of sign language interpreters. Lauri continues to serve as the coordinator and lead instructor for rater trainings as well as numerous summer institutes.
