DHS Urges Nursing Homes to Join Hospitals in Using the EMResource Bed Tracking System to Free Up Capacity at Hospitals Across Wisconsin
Wisconsin hospitals need accurate and up-to-date data about beds that are available at skilled nursing facilities. Please help our hospitals efficiently and effectively discharge patients to skilled nursing facilities by using EMResource Bed Tracking System to report your facility’s daily bed availability.
- The timely and accurate reporting of this data has a direct impact on hospital acute care bed availability by helping open up overloaded emergency departments across the state.
- It provides a standard for efficient coordination of resources during this critical period of the pandemic in Wisconsin.
- Without this critical data, Wisconsin hospitals are faced with sending blanket requests to multiple skilled nursing facilities which is inefficient for both our hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.
This data will help hospital discharge teams find the right place for each person at the right time and nursing home admission coordinators will have the opportunity to receive patient referrals and focus on transition of care.
The EMResource Bed Tracking System tracks bed availability, identifies the number of patients pending post-acute discharges, and provides a real-time picture of bed capacity in both hospitals and nursing homes across the state. The system, expanded in March 2021 to include a nursing home dashboard, has the ability to save hospitals and nursing homes many hours of searching for beds by phone and email.
