Federal Public Health Emergency Renewed by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services
The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced January 14, 2022, the renewal of the determination that a Public Health Emergency (PHE) exists nationwide as the result of the continued consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PHE declaration lasts until the Secretary of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services declares that the PHE no longer exists or upon the expiration of the 90-day period beginning on the date the Secretary declared a PHE exists, whichever occurs first. At this time the PHE has been extended through April 16, 2022. The federal 1135 waivers remain in effect during the PHE or unless terminated by DHHS/CMS prior to the expiration of the PHE.
