Effective Immediately: Safer Visits in Wisconsin Assisted Living – A Person Centered Approach Revised December 22, 2021

Safer Visits in Wisconsin Assisted Living - A Person Centered Approach has been revised and contains new guidance and expectations on how assisted living facilities can safely provide in-person visitation and accommodate communal activities and dining to address the psycho-social needs of residents. The physical separation from family and other loved ones continues to take a physical and emotional toll on residents. Visits from family and friends will be even more important as the holiday season is fast approaching.

Revised Guidance

On September 10, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Healthcare Personnel During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic(link is external) and Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations to Prevent SARS-CoV-2 Spread in Nursing Homes(link is external). Elements of these recommendations have been incorporated into the current Safer Visits in Assisted Living Facilities guidance. In addition, the new guidance is intended to support Division of Public Health (DPH) Numbered Memo BCD 2021-11 Prevention and Control of Acute Respiratory Illness Outbreaks in Long-Term Care Facilities released this week.

Safer Visits in Wisconsin Assisted Living - A Person Centered Approach promotes standardization in visitation guidance across the long term care spectrum while maintaining safety and supporting residents, family members, and staff.
