WIR Data Disruption: Walgreens
On Friday, November 5, during the course of regular data auditing, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) COVID-19 vaccine data team became aware of errors in data reporting. As of November 9, approximately 21,000 COVID-19 vaccination records have been temporarily removed from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR).
DHS recently became aware that this disruption is due to efforts undertaken by Walgreens to correct COVID-19 vaccination data in their system nationwide. The correction process Walgreens is following removes a vaccination from WIR and subsequently replaces it with a corrected version. The process is expected to be complete, and data accurately reflected in the WIR, within a few days. DHS is in close contact with Walgreens and is confident the affected data will be restored shortly.
While only a small number of Wisconsinites’ records are affected, DHS encourages people vaccinated at Walgreens to check their vaccination record online prior to getting a booster or additional dose. If access is unavailable, bring your CDC Vaccination Card to your appointment. Individuals who received vaccinations at Walgreens and need to access their records can also do so by contacting their local Walgreens pharmacy. Patients with a registered Walgreens pharmacy account can also access their vaccination record via the Walgreens website or mobile app.
Non-COVID-19 immunization records were not affected.
