Pfizer Booster Dose Schedule Updated in WIR
The new Pfizer booster dose schedule is being implemented in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) today. Vaccinators will now notice that booster doses appear differently in WIR depending on the client’s age, as detailed below.
Clients over the age of 65:
After the second dose of Pfizer vaccine is administered, WIR will forecast a booster dose six months later per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations. Once the booster dose is administered, it will appear in WIR as “Dose 3 of 3,” and the series will show as “Complete.”
Clients under the age of 65:
After the second dose of Pfizer vaccine is administered, WIR will show it as “Dose 2 of 2,” indicating a complete series. In the WIR forecaster, the “Earliest Date” column will show a date highlighted in yellow. If the client is eligible for a booster dose per ACIP recommendations, this highlighted date is the earliest date the booster can be given, which is six months from dose two. If the client does not qualify for a booster based on these eligibility criteria, a booster will be recommended on their 65th birthday, as indicated in the “Recommended Date” column.
Should a vaccinator administer the booster dose prior to age 65, the dose will appear as “Dose 3 of 2” on the WIR record. This indicates the client has a complete two dose series and has also received a booster dose for an indication other than age.
Thank you for your continued dedication to entering accurate, timely information into WIR and ensuring our inventory and client records are up-to-date.
