Wisconsin Will Continue to Waive Work Requirement Time Limits for Some FoodShare Members Until September 30, 2022

FoodShare members who are able-bodied adults without dependents are subject to a work requirement in order to be eligible for FoodShare benefits. Normally, if these members do not meet the work requirement, they are limited to three months of benefits in a three-year period (unless they qualify for a different exemption). However, recently FoodShare has been able to waive the time limits connected to the work requirement for these members.

Because the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect economic opportunity throughout Wisconsin, the waiver of the time limits for FoodShare work requirement has been extended statewide until September 30, 2022.

FoodShare members that are affected will be sent a letter informing them of the extension.

If a member must meet the time limits of the work requirement at a later time, they will get another letter telling them that they need to do so.

Members can find out about the waiver and other exemptions to the FoodShare work requirement on the DHS website.

FoodShare members are always encouraged to participate in the FoodShare Employment and Training (FSET) program if they are looking for free assistance in developing job skills, or pursuing career advancement.
