Don’t Forget: Get Vaccinated in Time for School
DHS encourages anyone age 12 and older to get their COVID-19 vaccination now, so they will be protected against COVID-19 in time for the 2021-2022 school year. For children ages 12 and up, the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the only vaccine currently available for this age group. The Pfizer vaccine requires two doses, spaced 21 days apart. Anyone ages 18 and up is eligible for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which also requires two doses, spaced 28 days apart. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is also authorized for those ages 18 years and up, but only requires one dose. Full protection against the virus requires an additional two weeks after receiving the final dose for each of the three vaccines.
In order to be fully vaccinated by September 6, your child should receive their:
- First dose of the Pfizer by August 2
- First dose of the Moderna by July 26
- Johnson & Johnson by August 23

Reducing Barriers to Advance Equity through COVID-19 Vaccination
As part of our $6.2 million grant program to promote vaccine equity, local and tribal health departments, vaccinators, and community-based organizations are finding ways to ensure underserved and historically marginalized populations have the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Here are a few examples of the work our partners are doing:
-
Milwaukee Area Technical College will be hosting a vaccination clinic in downtown Milwaukee on July 27th.
-
Jump at the Sun is coordinating mobilizers to canvas neighborhoods and knock-on doors to provide vaccination information. On July 8th, they reached 691 households in one day. Beginning this week, they have expanded their reach to include Milwaukee's south side.
-
Angelic Assistance Community Care will be hosting a vaccination event on July 31st at Dretzka Park in Milwaukee at 2p.m.
Want to Host an On-Site Vaccination Clinic?
Summer programs, sporting programs, faith-based, schools, community-based organizations, or community events who want to hold an on-site clinic for a group of individuals ready to be vaccinated, can communicate their interest to DHS by filling out the vaccination clinic matching survey and learn more on the DHS COVID-19 vaccine partner resources webpage. Employers can also hold an on-site clinic for their employees and their families, visit our COVID-19: Businesses, Employers, and Workers webpage to sign up.
