Reducing Barriers to Advance Equity through COVID-19 Vaccination
As part of our $6.2 million grant program to promote vaccine equity, local and tribal health departments, vaccinators, and community-based organizations are finding ways to ensure underserved and historically marginalized populations have the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Here are a few examples of the work our partners are doing:
-
Forward Latino hosted a COVID-19 Vaccination event on Saturday, June 26, at the Crusaders of Justicia in Manitowoc.
-
The Hmong American Friendship Association vaccinated almost 300 people at their walk-in clinic Friday June 18th.
-
Literacy Network of Dane County has seen a lot of success with their project with increased vaccine access among their target population to almost 80%, and a decrease in those that indicated they did not want the vaccine.
-
Supporting Families Together Association is hosting a webinar covering disinformation titled, ‘Becoming Information Savvy’ July 12th from 12-1 P.M in English and Spanish. As well as hosting a Facebook Live Q&A every Tuesday through their Sleeves Up for Kids Campaign.
-
Oshkosh Area School District has been successfully utilizing COVID-19 children’s books and coloring books to educate their community youth on COVID-19 and the COVID-19 vaccine.
-
Independence First has been experiencing success with their vaccination clinic providing drive up vaccination access, with recipients noting that the vaccination process was “convenient” and “easy”.

COVID-19 Testing Available for Children at Schools, Child Care Settings, and Summer Camps
COVID-19 testing helps reduce community spread and keeps schools, daycare centers and camps operating safely. Testing children who have symptoms and their close contacts helps rapidly detect cases and reduce or prevent outbreaks. Testing also helps protect children who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated. We urge parents and guardians learn more about the benefits of school testing or child care testing. And be sure to ask your child’s school, daycare, or camp about how you can keep your children safe and healthy.
