Division of Quality Assurance: Notifications & Updates |

Attention: Nursing Homes and Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IIDs)
Resource: Use of Stand-Alone Room Air Humidifiers Position Paper
Over the years, nursing home residents and their families often or routinely request the use of stand-alone room air humidifiers to improve ambient air comfort and facility staff have contacted the Division of Quality Assurance to request guidance regarding their use in the facility. In general, infection control guidance documents do not recommend the use of these devices.
In response to these requests, the Wisconsin Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) in Long-Term Care Coalition (LTC) developed the Use of Stand-Alone Room Air Humidifiers position paper to provide guidance regarding their use and maintenance in nursing homes and ICF/IIDs. The position paper may be found in the Stand-Alone Room Air Humidifier tab on the Resources page of the Wisconsin HAIs in LTC website.
