Removing Barriers to Vaccination through Communication and Support
Vaccinators and community-based organizations are findings ways to identify and remove barriers to vaccination through communication and support. Here are a few examples of work being done in the Milwaukee area:
- The Milwaukee Unified Emergency Operations Center and INPOWER have worked together create and maintain the HealthyMKE INPOWER, a black-owned, woman-owned healthcare marketing and community engagement agency, held focus groups to inform the creation of HealthyMKE. They have also built channels to gather ongoing feedback from the community. This strategy allows them to identify needs and adapt their communications to meet those needs.
- Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Hayat Pharmacy have teamed up with a variety partners to provide education and vaccines in a comfortable environment. Because of their history as consistent and reliable partners, they are a trusted source of information for residents seeking guidance about the vaccine. Partners include Gee’s MKE Wellness Clinic, Muslim Community Health Center, Holy Redeemer, and Mason Temple Church.
- Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Health Connections, Inc. has worked to provide education and access to testing and vaccination in trusted and convenient locations throughout Milwaukee. Through one-on-one conversations and relationships, Health Connections has provided residents with accurate information to help them make informed decisions about the vaccine.
