Updated April 19, 2021: Guidance for Providing On-Site Hair Salon and Barber Services in Long -Term Care Settings

Effective April 19, 2021, the guidance to assisted living facilities and the guidance to nursing homes that offer on-site hair salon and barber services has been updated. The cosmetologist is no longer limited to providing services to only one other salon in addition to the facility.

Minor updates were also made regarding screening, the wearing of facemasks, disinfecting the salon and equipment, hand hygiene, social distancing in the salon and in any waiting area, and changing and laundering resident capes between residents.

The Department of Health Services (DHS) recommends that facilities who provide on-site cosmetology services follow the guidance regarding screening, hand hygiene, facemasks, social distancing, cleaning and disinfecting work areas and equipment, and implement an audit system, for compliance with facility policies and procedures, for safe salon services.
