January 6 Stakeholder Call: Webinar on BadgerCare Plus and Medicaid Benefit Suspension For Inmates

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections are hosting a webinar for stakeholders about the recent policy changes related to BadgerCare Plus and Medicaid benefit suspension for inmates. This webinar is set for January 6, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This webinar will involve a walkthrough of the policy change followed by a question and answer session. If you have questions you'd like us to answer during the webinar, please email them to us by January 4, 2021. In addition, attendees are welcome to submit questions during the webinar, but questions submitted in advance will be prioritized.

To attend, you can:

  • Join the Zoom meeting, and use meeting ID 95948511545.
  • Call 312-626-6799, use password 2020 and meeting ID 95948511545.

Background

As of October 24, 2020, members of Wisconsin Medicaid programs who go to jail or prison will have their health care benefits suspended during their incarceration, instead of having their benefits terminated. While benefits are suspended, BadgerCare Plus and Medicaid will only cover hospital inpatient services lasting 24 hours or more.

As long as they continue to meet the program rules while incarcerated, members with suspended benefits will have their benefits reinstated upon their release from jail or prison, and do not need to submit a new application for them.

About the stakeholder call series

The stakeholder call series provides an opportunity for our partners and stakeholders to learn about eligibility policy updates and rule changes affecting Wisconsin programs, such as FoodShare and Medicaid.

If you have questions about the calls or would like to suggest a topic for a future call, please email us.
