VRBPAC Votes to Recommend Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine for EUA

We are one step closer to getting an approved COVID-19 vaccine in Wisconsin. Yesterday, the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee recommended that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorize the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Please see the FAQ document from the CDC related to Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs).

In anticipation of FDA authorizing the vaccine under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the upcoming days, deliveries of the frozen vaccines in Pfizer thermal shipping containers are expected to occur early in the week of December 14, 2020.

ACIP's vote on vaccine recommendations and the release of CDC's vaccine administration trainings are also expected to occur the week of December 14th. We will send out information as we receive it so you can prepare for vaccine administration.

Upcoming Alerts from Pfizer

Provider sites will receive email alerts from Pfizer and the carriers with tracking information and expected delivery times/dates. More details will be shared directly with the hubs for what to expect in the upcoming weeks.

SDMAC Recommendations

This morning SDMAC finalized and DHS accepted recommendations for those who will be prioritized to receive COVID-19 vaccine within the state. The initial guidance is available on our website and the framework will be updated as vaccine allocations increase over the next few months.

Messaging to your patients

We are many months away from ample COVID-19 vaccine supply and reaching high vaccination coverage. In the meantime, please continue to encourage your patients and stakeholders to continue wearing masks, physical distancing, washing your hands and get tested if they have signs and symptoms of COVID-19, and follow subsequent isolation and quarantine practices.
