Staffing Resources

As COVID-19 progresses, the Department of Health Services (DHS) recognizes that staffing shortages are occurring due to healthcare staff exposures, illness, or the need to care for family members at home. In order to assist facilities in preparing for potential staffing shortages, DHS offers the following resources:

In accordance with state and federal regulations, the DHS Division of Quality Assurance has developed several training options to respond to the unprecedented need for additional certified nurse aides (CNAs) to join the workforce. All options attempt to provide immediate assistance/relief during this time of crisis. Please see the Emergency Nurse Aide Training Programs for complete information.

In an effort to attract and retain more caregivers, DHS launched the innovative WisCaregiver Career Program on March 1, 2018. The WisCaregiver Career Program included resources and training to help nursing homes hire and retain the best possible workforce. The webinar recordings and other materials are available at Workforce Solutions.

The Department is pursuing additional staffing strategies, both internally and with other agencies, and will continue to share information as it is available.
