SeniorCare Waiver Will Be Amended to Include Coverage of Vaccines
On October 19, 2020, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) published a waiver amendment to the SeniorCare website.
DHS is asking for approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to amend the Section 1115 Research and Demonstration waiver to expand the SeniorCare Prescription Drug Assistance Program benefit to include the coverage of certain vaccines.
If the amendment receives legislative and CMS approval, approximately 105,000 Wisconsin seniors would have access to several vaccines, including a potential COVID-19 vaccine. Wisconsinites age 65 and older who are covered under SeniorCare would be able to access these vaccines through their pharmacies.
Per 2019 Wisconsin Act 185, SeniorCare plans to cover vaccines for the following diseases for its members, when administered by pharmacy providers:
- Influenza
- Pneumococcal disease
- Diphtheria
- Tetanus
- Pertussis
- Shingles
- Meningococcal disease
- Hepatitis A and B
- Varicella zoster (chickenpox)
At this time, DHS would like to hear from you about the SeniorCare program and about the waiver amendment. See the Public Input section on the SeniorCare website for ways to share your comments. You can submit comments until November 2, 2020.
