Dashboard Overview

Today the Department of Health Services launched two new data dashboards designed to give Wisconsinites the tools they need to most effectively respond to COVID-19.

The first data dashboard, Disease Activity, tracks changes in confirmed COVID-19 case numbers and trends. Metrics including daily number of emergency department visits for people with COVID-like and influenza-like symptoms will better inform Wisconsinites on activity level by region or county. These metrics categorize case activity by “low,” “medium,” “high,” or “very high” to help target communities that are experiencing widespread transmission.

The second data dashboard is Hospital Capacity and which provides data to better understand how the virus is impacting regional health care systems. Some of the measures include usage of hospital beds, ICU beds, ventilators, and trajectory of hospitalizations.

These dashboards will be updated by 4 p.m. every Wednesday. Additional metrics including testing will be added in coming weeks.

DHS also launched the following data visualizations to better monitor and respond to COVID-19:

  • Percent positive graphs: New graphs showing 7-day trends of percent positive COVID-19 cases by test and in comparison to the rate by person have been added to the website.
  • COVID-19 cases by school-age children dashboard: This new data dashboard breaks down confirmed COVID-19 cases among youth age group – or school-aged children. It includes those under age 3, 4 – 8 years old, 9 – 13 years old, and 14 – 17 years old.

We encourage partners to use the dashboards in order to keep up-to-date on the disease situation in their communities. To support decision-making, DHS has also released Slowing the Spread of COVID-19: Mitigation Strategies for Wisconsin Communities tied to the data metrics of disease activity and hospital capacity.
