HHS Nursing Home Update Webinar 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. – Registration required
On July 14, 2020, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the large-scale procurement of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-authorized rapid point-of-care diagnostic test instruments and tests (Becton Dickinson (BD) and Quidel Corporation) to be distributed to nursing homes certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), with a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) Certificate of Waiver within the United States, in their continuing effort to protect vulnerable Americans. HHS will host a webinar with BD and Quidel on September 3, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to walk through each manufacturer’s training modules that are being utilized by the nursing homes. Each manufacturer will have a 30-minute time slot to present and answer any questions. Please register for the training.

COVID Testing Supplies Orders for Skilled Nursing Facilities - Changes Coming Soon
With the additional labs recently assigned to work directly with Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), the web site to request testing supplies will be updated on Friday, September 4. This change will allow for better allocation of testing supplies to align with a facility’s testing plan in order to support ongoing routine testing needs and to maximize lab capacity for those testing needs. Rather than asking to select specific supplies, the COVID Response Team is asking for testing plan information. SNF’s will be required to provide the following information on the Testing Supplies Order web site:

  • Facility National Medicaid Provider Number (NPI) number
    -OR-
  • Organization Name – search and select the appropriate facility that will be conducting testing
  • Number of Residents to be tested
  • Number of Staff to be tested
  • Test Date (start date)
  • Type of Testing (select from Outbreak or Routine Screening)
  • Date of Last Positive test result

Supplies will be distributed on the basis of the testing plan and will no longer be listed for selection. For additional instruction, please refer to the SEOC Testing Supply Website – Skilled Nursing Facilities job aid posted under Nursing Home Testing Criteria.

Additional guidance regarding CMS Memo QSO-20-38-NH is forthcoming. In the meantime:

  • Nursing homes that have not been transitioned to a new lab should continue to order supplies for outbreak testing.
  • Nursing homes that have been transitioned to a new lab should continue to order supplies to complete retesting of staff every two weeks unless there is an outbreak. Testing is weekly during an outbreak.

If you have questions about the testing process, please email WI COVID-19 SNF Testing.
