Safety Concerns

In recognition of safety concerns in some Wisconsin communities at this time, the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), Bureau of Assisted Living (BAL) would like to thank assisted living providers for ensuring the safety of both their residents and staff. Your dedication and commitment to those you care for, as well as the staff who do this important work, is appreciated.

At this time, assisted living providers are encouraged to review their emergency procedures with all staff so that the facility can respond swiftly to any situation that presents a danger to residents and staff.

As a reminder, the Bureau of Assisted Living has a process in place for assisted living providers to request waivers and/or variances in the event that temporary relief from a state code is needed. The DHS webpage, Waivers, Approvals, Variances, and Exceptions: Assisted Living webpage provides information about the process. Please contact the appropriate BAL Regional Director should you need assistance or have any questions.
