COVID-19: Winnebago Mental Health Institute Admissions

Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) continues to accept new admissions during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The top priority is keeping patients and staff healthy and safe.

All general hospitals are screening patients for referral with similar questions. WMHI admissions coordinators complete a pre-screen regarding COVID-19 at the time of referral. Doctor-to-doctor discussion is still happening as part of the usual medical clearance procedure. Patients will not be denied admission solely based on COVID-19 symptoms, exposure, or a positive test result. WMHI is not an acute care hospital and staff need to balance the patient’s psychiatric needs with their medical needs when considering an admission. If the patient needs an inpatient level of mental health care and WMHI can meet their psychiatric and general health needs, the patient will be admitted.

WMHI's operations during this time are informed by guidance from our public health partners. If changes need to be made to the WMHI admissions process, you will be informed as quickly as possible.

Thank you for support and understanding during this challenging time.
